Invented by marketers in 2005, I love this day every year. Watching what brands do: seeing creative campaigns, watching cool subject lines and emails. Seeing who offers the best deals.

The name Cyber Monday came from an article. There’s a lot to process around the holiday being 14 years old. It feels like the holiday has always been around. For me at least. Fourteen years is most of my lifetime.

The Best Things about Cyber Monday

Data indicated that online purchases increased on the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2004. The first use of the phrase Cyber Monday came through the title of an article about the spike. This is a great example of using data to drive more purchases. By naming the day, marketers have been able to:

1. Identify a trend

2. Leverage marketing to drive more of that customer behavior

3. Create a new normal

Here we are now fourteen years in and Cyber Monday is part of our livelihood.

Fair Stakes

The reach of Cyber Monday is far and wide. Think about it, shopping on the internet is not dependent on what is close to you. Online retailers all over get to enjoy the day.

Trend of shopping days

Without Cyber Monday, we wouldn’t have Small Business Saturday or Giving Tuesday.
