I have a confession: last week I signed up for the Black Girls Run inaugural Drive to End Hunger 10k and I had the race date all mixed up. I thought it was a week later than it is. More importantly, I must admit that I have not run a 10k since the Peachtree Road Race. I have been running since then, but no more than 4 miles or interval runs. I did this before the Peachtree too 🙁 I don’t feel as prepared as I’d like to, but I do feel fully capable of running a 10k on Sunday. Plus, last time I ran a route near Atlantic Station I got a PR so I’m optimistic (2009 Susan G. Komen 5k race 24:45 minutes) I have discovered a few things about myself lately:

1. I am a seasonal runner – I don’t like running in the hot heat but I love running in the fall and winter.

2. I don’t plan my workouts – I just wake up and decide if I’m going to workout for the day or if I’m not

3. I have been staying up too late

Normally, I go to bed early and wake up early. I am an early bird. But since I started working at startups, that changed. Now, I’m doing way better with keeping up with a regular schedule but for a while, it was a struggle! I have to accept: staying up late is not for me. I set a goal for this week to get on an exercise schedule and stick with it! I am going to follow the ToneItUp September calendar this week, my goal is to stick with the workouts through the end of the week up until the race. I have noticed that it’s easiest to just wake up, see what I’m doing for the day and get it done instead of planning on the spot. I am adding a run for Thursday evening due to my busy schedule, that’s the best time for me. I ran on Sunday for 2.5 miles and yesterday I did the workouts they posted. I’m also breaking in new shoes that I purchased a week ago, which wasn’t the best idea but my old shoes were far beyond retirement. I wore them for several races including the ING Miami Half, The Color Run and Dirty Girl Run. They were dirty, dyed and wouldn’t stay tied. RIP.

My new shoes are Brooks Glycerin

My old ones were Brooks Defyance. I had to force myself to throw them out. For some reason, I always want to keep stuff. Maybe it’s a sentimental thing. Old shoes are dirty and take up space, in the trash they went.

Happy Monday everyone!
