The Hunger Games

{via}

Last week, I read The Hunger Games in one rainy afternoon. It was a page turner! I decided to read the books because of the movie trailers. Plus, I kept hearing about how great the books were. And I have to admit, that the hype is worth it. The book is worth reading! The movie comes out this Friday and I’m definitely going to see it. Here are 5 reasons why:

1. The protagonist is a woman

I appreciate the fact that the lead character is a female and the story is done in first person. In comparison to other series in this category (like Twilight and Harry Potter) none of the stories really portray women in a strong, positive light. Yes, in Harry Potter there’s Hermione and she’s intelligent and brave. But the whole Harry Potter series revolves around…you guessed it Harry Potter and doesn’t focus too much on Hermione at all. And as far as Bella, she came off like a lovesick princess. Katniss is pretty fearless.

2. It’s realistic

I could see something like this actually happening.

3.  Peeta

He’s real, he’s genuine and he doesn’t fake his affections. I won’t spoil it for everyone, but I really liked his character.

4. The diverse cast

I enjoyed the character descriptions in the book. I can’t wait to see how these characters are depicted on screen.

5. Lenny Kravitz

He’s Lenny Kravitz. Not much else to say about that except I have always been a fan! I also appreciated his character Cinna. I want to see all of his designs come to life.

Do you plan to see The Hunger Games?
