I’m snowed in today! It came out of no where. Okay, now that’s a total lie. Us Atlanta folk heard about the snow coming Friday or so. My dad told me I would not be going anywhere. And because my dad knows everything, I knew he was right. No really, my dad does know everything. I can admit that now that I’m not a teenager! I wanted some hot chocolate, but realized that we didn’t have any of the instant bags. Never fear, I bought a bag of Nativas Naturals Cacoa powder long ago for the health benefits (magnesium, fiber and antioxidants: flavanals and polyphenols) to add to my morning smoothies.
I found my recipe on The Thinking Mother’s blog. But I did tweak it a little.
I used 8 oz. of 2% milk
2 teaspoons Nativas Naturals Cacao powder
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon brown sugar
I used a little over 8 oz.
I heated the milk for about 2 minutes
Added the sugars!
The finished product!
Okay, the taste of the hot chocolate was very chocolaty! More akin to Starbucks hot cocoa than the box Swiss Miss. I think that it would have been a little better if I made it with whole milk (which most recipes I saw suggested due to it having more fat). I also, will use the stove next time to heat the milk so that it can get a little hotter. Overall, the hot chocolate was yum, and it kept me warm. The only thing missing was marshmallows!
