V is for Very

Heathers is one of my favorite movies. It’s funny, well written and the fashion was on a whole different level. The film features many quirky one liners. Today’s post is inspired by a phrase used in the movie “It will be very”. Very = cool in Heathers terminology. Have you ever seen Heathers? If you like Mean Girls, Clueless it’s a must see.

U is for Under Armour Women

Under Armour women launched a campaign called What’s beautiful. The campaign aims encourages women to declare a goal and document it’s progress online.

{from whatsbeautiful.ua.com/}

Any woman can sign up and list their goal. Then contestants will be competing challenges in 3 categories:

- Drive Challenges: test your will

- Compete Challenges: push you to the top

- Influence Challenges: a test of social influence, how many people can you bring to your cheering section?

I think the campaign is cool. Many of the goals range from lifting weights 4-5 times a week, PR time for a year in 5k, 10k races, 10k under 60 minutes, and Boston qualify. I also like how the contest has a variety of challenges that don’t solely depend on “likes” or social influence. There are a total of 19 challenges! The finalists are selected based on how great their “stories” are. Meaning how great they fill in their profile pages. The prize is having your life sponsored for a year by Under Armour.

What a cool social media campaign. Yes, it’s a contest. But I also like how you are also working towards a goal while attempting to win.

Here’s a video with more information:

T is for TGIF

When I was growing up, the TGIF lineup on ABC ruled the television every Friday night.

I’m so glad that it’s Friday! This week has been a whirlwind. Tomorrow I’m doing the Dirty Girl run and tonight I’m hanging with the girls. Do you have anything fun planned? Have a great weekend. Oh, and I found this clip too while searching for TGIF promos. It’s actually pretty thought provoking about dating from that show Dinosaurs.

S is for Sofia Vergara

I’m always paying close attention to branding by companies and observing individuals who have a great brand. One of those I’ve been following lately is Sofia Vergara.

{from Self}

I first noticed Sofia while watching Modern Family. I discovered the show somewhere within the first season. With reruns, I was able to catch every episode. Instantly, I was a fan. One of the first few episodes that I saw was Coal Digger. If you haven’t seen it, I think it’s one of the best episodes of the season. Here are 4 reasons that I think Sofia has a great brand.

1. She maintains the same “look”  - I have noticed that Sofia wears a certain type of outfit and has the same hairstyle. High heels and her hair is always flowing and down. It’s consistent.

There are loads of YouTube of her on late night shows. In most she always has a dress on and always wears the exact same hairstyle.

2. She doesn’t act oblivious about her body – I like how she is confident about her figure and she isn’t afraid to laugh at herself or point out her voluptuous figure.  I think she uses it to her advantage by bringing it up in interviews and advertisements.

3. She’s honest – In her magazine interviews (like Self and Shape) she admits that working out is not her thing. I think that’s great since so many celebrities say that staying in shape is easy.

4. She’s funny – She can make a joke out of anything. Seriously. She’s great at being funny and candid. In many of her interviews and commercials, she pokes fun at the attention her figure gets. In her Kmart commercial and in award speeches too.

Can you think of any celebs that have a great brand?

R is for Reset

I’m on week 2 of my running plan. It feels good getting back into a regular running schedule. Sometimes, we have to be honest with ourselves and other people. So here goes nothing, I still don’t 100% know what I want to do. Yes, I have this blog and it’s been fun writing in it but I have yet to open up like I did with Xanga. Maybe it’s because this blog is more “mainstream” and professional. I often get asked about this blog in professional interviews. That’s cool though. One of my focuses is Marketing and it’s great to be recognized by your peers. Plus, this blog gets me hired which = opportunities and $. That’s definitely a plus! I can’t just spill my guts and release my life woes.

We all need a fresh press of reset sometimes to clear our minds. I feel like that now. Maybe I’ve been watching too much TV?

Q is for Quantum Leap

Does anyone remember that show Quantum Leap?

That used to be my favorite show. I was about 4 years old when it came on. I don’t know how I even remember watching it or who I was watching it with. But I do remember it!

Fortunately, I can now relive the magic of the show watching hulu. I love hulu. Watching TV online is  more convenient than sitting to watch it at night. I can watch while I write and workout!  Today has been a not so great day. But fortunately, little things like this excite me :) According to Foursquare, I visited 15 places last week! No wonder I’m worn out and a little frustrated today. That’s a lot of places.

Have you ever watched Quantum Leap. I checked out an episode earlier today. It’s still a great show. Have a wonderful Monday evening!

P is for Puppets

This Friday night I went on a date to the Center for Puppetry Arts. I received free tickets from Scoutmob to see the adult show White Like Me. Speaking of Scoutmob, they are pretty cool! I’ve been telling all of my friends who still don’t use them yet to jump on the bandwagon. They have the scoop on what’s happening in and around Atlanta and may other cities. Plus, they save you money. Who doesn’t want to save money? So, back to White Like Me…

{The program photo I took and posted to Foursquare}

First, we toured the Center for Puppetry Arts including the Jim Henson exhibit. We grabbed our wine and sat down for the show. I watched a short preview of the show, but I didn’t know what I was in for. At all. Paul Zaloom is an actor and puppeteer who was also on the educational kids show Beakman’s World. Basically, the show is about being a white man. That’s a topic that I have no clue about (obviously). I also have never heard a white man’s perspective on being a white man. Paul, is talented and he was able to create lots of humorous and thought provoking moments throughout his performance. He started things off doing ventriloquism with a puppet who lived during the Vaudeville era and is oblivious to modern times. The puppet has been in a box for some time and he has no clue of how much the world has changed. So Paul explains many modern things to him like iPhones, internet and Barack Obama. This conversation leads him to tell the story of “White-Man” and how he lands on planet Earth and civilizes things (his words). Overall, the production stimulated some great conversation over dinner at Fig Jam.

I had a great time at the show. I had no clue that the Center for Puppetry Arts did productions for adults. It’s a fun evening outing with a date or for a girl’s night. I joined their email list so that I can stay in the loop and know about their upcoming adult events. I would even take a cool pal back there! My date was also equally impressed by my cunning ability to find something unique for us to do :)

O is for Ohm

What a week! I feel like it went by so fast. I did all of my running around earlier this week. Yesterday and today have been more laid back. This weekend I am running the Sweetwater 420 Festival 5k. Last year was so much fun that I signed up for another one! It’s a fun race (with a huge hill) where beer, festival entry and a cool t-shirt are included in your entry. I’ve been following my interval running plan and it’s going great. I also decided to join in on the Tone It Up Spring Into Bikini season challenge. It’s 8 weeks long. You can sign up too!

I’m pretty sore today from all of the action this week, so I’m going to relax with some yoga. I use Sadie Nardini‘s workouts from YouTube. I’m going through 3 rounds of this playlist this morning:

Happy Friday!

N is for Never Too Much

N was a tough one for me today. I thought about all sorts of heavy topics. Then I decided to just keep it light and this song was what came to mind. I told you I like 80s music :) Enjoy:

L is for Leap List

A very cool marketing campaign I spotted while doing some research on small SUVs a while ago was the Honda CR-V Leap List campaign. Take a good hard look at this:

(from Honda)

When I look at this, I feel like it’s about me making a leap list and not so much about the car. In fact, when I think about the Honda CR-V, I think about this cool campaign and not so much the car. That’s not wrong though. At least I remember the Honda CR-V when I think about cars. It’s all because of the ad. I like how the ad has the “See the CR-V” button underneath the car. It’s not about the car even though the ad is for the car. I like that.

Using Facebook, anyone can login and create their own Leap List. Plus you can see what the top items are on other users lists. I like the community they have built and how you can share your list with supportive strangers. It’s a marketing campaign that focuses on something universal that we all do on our own, but can share with others while we are on our journey. That’s what a great marketing campaign is about.

Things this post was almost about

As each letter passes, I occasionally have multiple ideas for the letters. Then I have to ask myself, How can I come up with anything to write about that? The honest answer I tell myself is, it’s not going to happen. Thus, the awesome ideas are shelved. So, I’d like to share my cool ideas that I can’t come up with a post to write about too. Today’s alternate topic was going to be about Beck’s song “Loser”. Why? Because it starts with L and it’s a cool song.
